Fear of death.

We all have it. Not all of us know what to do with it.

There was a very sad event in our town; one of our friends was taken by cancer. What an ugly disease.

You must be a married man to attend the funeral, women and children mourn at the home. Barbara and I were not at the funeral, but we got to hear about it from our friend Paul.

There was something different about this particular funeral. This man believed in Christ, this man had given his life to the Lord, this man was a Christian…

The elders didn’t know what to do concerning the burial so they sent a runner to go and find one of the pastors. They found Paul and told him to hurry over; everyone was waiting for a pastor so that they could bury the body.

As Paul told us about what it had been like I was so encouraged. Here he had the opportunity to share about hope in life after death… and not with just a few people, there was a large crowd. Not only were the men eager to listen but for the next few days it was talked of all over town.

Death is ugly for us on this side. The unknown is terrifying. But when you realize the truth of heaven then there is hope. It doesn’t mean that we are any less sad or any less sorry to no longer have our friend, but it does mean that we know that the sorrow is only know by us, he is safe in the arms of Christ.
